20 August 2016
Today, we went to an outdoor food market in Williamsburg, Brooklyn called “Smorgasburg” (http://www.smorgasburg.com/). There was a lot of wonderful food on offer and I finally got to try a ramen burger (apparently, it’s the “original” one haha).
Michael had a beef short rib with marrow – yum!
(*not pictured is the half Philly Cheesesteak sandwich that we had already polished off)
Smorgasburg takes place on the East River State Park on Saturdays, and you can buy a wonderful meal then sit on the grass, watching the river and the gorgeous Manhattan skyline.
My daily drawing for 20 August was done while we were relaxing here…
From here, we visited two flea markets – first, artists & fleas: http://www.artistsandfleas.com/, which is half a block from Smorgasburg, then the Brooklyn Flea: http://brooklynflea.com/, a walk and subway ride away in Fort Greene.
After a lovely look around at everything, and wanting all the vintage furniture, we walked the Brooklyn Bridge over to Manhattan (amazing, amazing). Michael has all the good photos from our walk, but here’s one from my phone:
We went back to our Airbnb to refresh as we had decided that afternoon to catch a musical that night. We saw Something Rotten at the St. James Theatre, thanks to a wonderful app called TodayTix (https://www.todaytix.com/us/nyc/). Our Airbnb host had recommended it that morning and it proved to be very, very good – super easy, super quick to organise.
A truly excellent day! And on that note, here is Michael’s video for the day:
